ElmsWild owns and maintains Lukeswood which we are developing as a community wildspace for Elmswell. Our community wildspace is open for everyone to enjoy.
Within Lukeswood we have established Norman’s Orchard, planted with over 60 fruit trees, many of them traditional Suffolk varieties. We are now starting a Scattered Orchard project in the village
For many years we have also maintained a local wildlife site, Kiln Meadow, by agreement with the landowner, Anglian Water. Three types of orchid grow there and the pond is a magnet for wildlife.
Our new ElmsWild Flowers project aims to bring back areas of wildflowers around the village, helping bees and other pollinating insects.
We work with our local school and other young people’s groups to help give our children hands-on experience of nature. At Lukeswood and Kiln Meadow they enjoy all sorts of activities – tree and hedge planting, bug hunts, pond dipping, and nature discovery days.
ElmsWild volunteers also look after the Elmswell Memorial Garden. We are working to maintain this small public garden as a tranquil haven for the local community.
We organise a variety of community events so that everyone has the chance to join in and get involved – tree planting sessions, craft activities, wildlife surveys and Apple Days.
Come and join us! Everyone is welcome, whether you want to attend one of our events or help out with our conservation work. Please get in touch to find out more. Email info@elmswild.org.uk
